الصحة العقلية السليمة ليست شيئا تحوزه، ولكنها شيء تقوم به، فلكي تكون صحيحا عقليا فعليك أن تقيّم نفسك وتقبل بها. وهذا يعني:

أن تشعر بأهمية نفسك وأن تقوم على رعايتها، وأن تحب نفسك ولا تكرهها، وأن تهتم بصحتك الجسدية.
أن تأكل جيدا وتنام جيدا وأن تتمرن وتمتع نفسك.
أن ترى نفسك شخصا ذا قيمة بحد ذاتك. لست بحاجة إلى اكتساب حقك في الوجود، أنت موجود فلديك الحق في الوجود.
أن تحكم على نفسك بناء على مقاييس معتدلة، وأن لا تضع لنفسك أهدافا مستحيلة مثل: "يجب أن أكون ممتازا في كل ما أفعل" ومن ثم تعاقب نفسك عندما لا تحقق هذه الأهداف.
إذا لم تقيم وتقبل نفسك فستكون دائما مشفقا من أن الناس سيرفضونك، ولتحجب الناس عن رؤية إلى أي حد أنت غير مقبول ستبقيهم بمنأى عنك، وبالتالي ستبقى دائما خائفا ووحيدا. إذا قيمت نفسك فلن تشفق من أن يرفضك الناس ولن تكون خائفا من الآخرين وسيكون باستطاعتك أن تكون منفتحا وبالتالي تتمتع بعلاقات جيدة. إذا قيمت وتقبلت نفسك فسيكون في مقدورك أن تسترخي وتمتع نفسك دون أن تشعر بالذنب. وإذا واجهتك شدة فستعلم أنه مهما كانت صعوبة الموقف فستنجو منها بإذن الله. كيف ننظر إلى أنفسنا أمر مهم في كل قرار نتخذه.
